Abstract: “Late or too Late? Old Age in the Elegies of Maximian and Late Latin Literature”

In this presentation, I will talk about my upcoming project involving the motif of old age in the elegies of the Latin poet Maximian and Late Latin literature. This project will on the one hand try to sketch the history of this concept of “old age” in Latin literature written before the time of Maximian and on the other hand focus on the elegies of Maximian himself. His poems will be connected to old age as a cultural image of Late Antiquity and to the theoretical framework of the “ageing studies”.
